Tracing BAKER/COX
« on: Tuesday 20 March 07 14:30 GMT (UK) »
According to a published record in South Australia, Jacob BAKER was born 16 Oct 1810 Chisledon and married Charlotte [apparently COX] born 15 Jun 1809.  According to the 1851 Census they were born in Hodson and Badbury respectively, and they were apparently married 17 Dec 1827.

Would it be possible to find details of their birth or baptisms, that is to say, details of their respective parents ?

This would be greatly appreciated.
Jeenie.    :)

Hi Jeenie
There are 37 Cox's in Chisledon on the census sheets in 1841 ranging from 1756 and upwards. I suppose the best thing would be the marriage certificate to find out who the fathers were.

Thank you, Ricky.   The family in the 1841 census, parents Jacob and Charlotte, is definitely the family I am after.  But they were presumably married before Timothy was born c1827 and there wouldn't be a marriage certificate then, would there ?
You see, I am new to this English research, and don't understand it all.   :-[ :-[ :-[

Thank you,
Jeenie.   :)

I have this family of Bakers from Chiseldon/Hodson/Purton Wiltshire in my family line.   I have quite a bit of info on them - if you need anything get in touch.

I guess you know about Jacob and his famous handwritten speech made prior to his emigrating to Australia.

It is great to hear from you.

Jacob's speech to which you refer sounds intriguing, and we would love to hear more.

Ann BAKER and William Augustus LONG from Somerset who married 10 Dec 1853 Lyndoch Valley South Australia were my 2 x great grand parents;  we have been researching their descendants here but know nothing about our ancestors in England, so anything you can provide in this regard eg, direct ancestors, life events, personal details, would be greatly appreciated.

I await further advice from you with anticipation.
