My cousin is trying to trace his Cupples side of the family.

Thomas Cupples was born abt 1830, we think county Down, he married Letitia Clarke in 1851, Scava, county Down, they had 2 children John 1852 and Mary Jane 1856, before coming to Australia.

Have just done a quick search for you and I have found  Thomas and Letitia Cupples  both aged 28,arriving in Sydney with 2 children Mary J an infant and Thomas aged 2.No John though.They left Liverpool on 23 Aug 1856 on board the "Edward Oliver" which arrived in Sydney 22 Nov 1856. They came as assisted immigrants. I could look up the shipping lists but not until Wednesday 21 March  when I will be at my local family history society.

Hi again a search of the NSW BDM has produced this information.I'm not sure if all are relevant:

1870 Letitia b. Tamworth NSW

Hi,
Thanks for that, wonder if we have the right Cupples as there was definatey a John, he died in Gunnedah 1905 and was my cousins grandmothers father.
Will have to get him to check info.

Hi Lacharna,I checked shipping records for you when I was at my local family history centre.the Cupples arrived in Australia on 22 November 1856 in Sydney after leaving Liverpool England on 23 Aug 1856.They were bounty immigrants paying one pound (Australian Immigration Act) for their fare.Thomas was listed as ag/ farm labourer born in Aughadery(?)Down the son of John and Agnes who were both deceased.Letitia(which happens to be my daughter's name!!) was the daughter of John and Agnes Clark both living at Innderagle(?sorry handwriting indistinct)Armagh where Letitia was born.Thomas and Mary J were born at Guildford Down.Thomas and Letitia could both read and write.They were Church of England and were all in good health.
