All the damaged parts of the 1851 census for Salford Greengate, Salford Regent Road and Pendleton and Pendlebury have been published on CD by the Manchester & Lancs FHS.   They are available from their on-line bookshop at www.mlfhs.org.uk.

Good hunting!

On the Greengate disc, the only Fay is:

32 Durham St
Bridget Fay   Head  widow 54  Laundress b Ireland
Catherine Wild Lodger Un 60 Hank Winder b Lancashire Manchester
Mitchell Hapson Lodger 24 Bookbinder jyman b Ireland
(HO107 2223 p263 Sched 105)

On the Pendleton/Pendlebury disc there are no Fays. I've looked for similar names (bearing in mind the damaged entries would be difficult to read) and found a 3 year old John Fox (Parents Thomas & Eliza, brothers James and Joseph, living in Booth St). I can give you full details of this if you are interested.
Byers (Salford & London)
Stringfellow (Salford & Chorley)
Holmes (Manchester & Birmingham)
Goulding/Golden (Birmingham & Lincolnshire)
Bassett (Manchester & Salford, Staffordshire)
Child (Lincolnshire)
Belshaw (Salford)
Hallsworth (Eccles & Salford)
Vernon (Bury & Chapel en le Frith)
