Donald Arthur Jackson
« on: Sunday 18 March 07 14:47 GMT (UK) »
If there is no response to this I can understand as I have so little to go on.
I am starting to trace the descendants of Donald Jackson and his wife Ethel Wilson. Donald was born 1913 @ Stockport and his father was Joseph Jackson (deceased by 1942) Nothing else known. Ethel was born 1924 in West Derby, Liverpool, her parents were Arthur Wilson and Jane formally Boyes.
Can anyone get me started? Thank you.

I have found the marriage of Arthur Wilson to Jane Boyes 4th quarter of 1919 at St Mary's Church Kirkdale, Liverpool. If you send for their marriage certificate it will give you the name of their fathers and their occupations and then it will be easy to trace them on the 1901 census.

When you get it just let me know and I will trace both families on the census for you.

I have had a look for Donald's birth but there are two quarters of 1913 missing on Ancestry and he isn't on the two that are available. I also looked on Cheshire BMD which covers Stockport but there are no Donald's for the relevent year but there is one in Mossley which is nearby.

What I suggest is you either have a look on Findmypast which is pay per view which would confirm the registration area where he was born or take a gamble and if you are absolutely sure that he was born in Stockport in 1913 then write to Stockport Register Office enclosing a cheque for £7 and SAE.

This is somewhat speculative.

In 1901 there is a Jane Boyes (b1898) living in the registration district of West Derby, Liverpool.

She is with her father William (c1870, Liverpool), a masons labourer.
Mother Eliza (c1872, Liverpool) and 3 female siblings.

Will it match the Wedding Cert info when you get it??

Merc Thank you. The only reference I have to Jane Boyes is Ethel's birth certificate where it says Mother= Jane Wilson formally Jane Boyes. Father was Arthur Wilson a Dock Labourer. Ethels Birth Certificate was from the registration district of West Derby. I think that you are thinking I have Jane's marriage cert. but unfortunatly no. having said that it looks a strong lead.
Margaret, Thank you for your help. Donald died in Australia in August 1972 on his Aussie cert it says he was 59 years born Stockport, this is corroborated on his marriage cert. which says he was 28 in 1942 & living @ The Stork Hotel, Liverpool.
The only 3 documents I have are Ethel's birth cert. Ethel & Donald's marriage cert. & Donald's Aussie death cert.

....there are two quarters of 1913 missing on Ancestry

The other two quarters of 1913 are available on Ancestry but the indexing is out of synchronisation with the search criteria. This problem has been covered on other threads such as the following one, which also includes the reason why it occurs.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,193900.msg959276.html#msg959276

The two 1913 quarters do not show up if you search for Donald Jackson. However, if you search for another similar surname which is a little way forward or backward from the one that you actually want (in this case I chose Jackman) the quarters then appear and you can page forward or backward. This method usually works whenever a quarter seems to be missing on the BMD indexes.

Possible Birth Registration

1913 Ashton OND quarter 8d 1016 - Donald Jackson

This is probably the one that was spotted on Cheshire BMD in Mossley.

I have checked from 1912 to 1914 in the full index and I cannot see a Donald A Jackson.

Thanks DS for your response & I read the topic you started.  I have now managed to find out another snippett of information. Mr Jackson was born April 1913 in Stockport but I have also found out that  he has used his christian names in reverse ie. Arthur (Donald) Jackson.
Merc/Margaret I have ordered cert. 2013/WD?31/129. See what that says. Any further help appreciated.
