Ideas on finding Information re Football Association in early 1900s
« on: Sunday 18 March 07 05:51 GMT (UK) »
This is just a long shot, but last night I was given an envelope containing photogaphs, postcards of instructions, and a Middlesex County Football Association Junior badge from a jumper that belonged to my grandfather. I have had his football medals for some time but did not know where he had played - just that he had been quite a good young football player. One of the postcards invites him to play for the Middlesex County team.

I'd love to find out more about the competition in the early 1900s if it is possible.

I have found and read http://www.middlesexfa.com/history.htm
but I don't seem to be able to find anything else online that is of help.

Does anyone have any ideas on if such information is available - and if so, where I could access it.

It's a long shot, Dee, but you could try wading through this - http://www.uknetguide.co.uk/Sports/Football/.  I found some interesting sites on this, but some time ago.  Might be worth a try (I assume you have already google'd  :))

Hi Dee

Try http://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com

In the contact section they have an email address for research, and they hold records for Football Association members from 1880's

Hi Dee,

I noticed this link posted by Gadget a few months ago, to be honest I haven't had a good look through it, but it might be of some help.

Thanks all - I shall have a look at all of those a little later. Much appreciated. (Yes, Julian - I had googled and found the web page of the Middlesex County Football Association and read their history page, but didn't seem to be able to find much more.)

Dragging this thread back out to ask another question, as I'm trying to put together some information for my youngest grandson about his gg-grandfather's football memorabilia.......

One of my grandfather's medals has Lynn Borough on it. I've tried googling it, but all I get is Kings Lynn and then further along the word Borough.

My grandfather grew up and lived in Kings Lynn until he left home as a young man after his mother died, and I suspect this medal is something to do with Kings Lynn....but I can't find anything to confirm that.

Any one know the answer for me please?

It's the medal on the right that has Lynn Borough on it.....

I take it his name is William Steeles  ???

What is his D.O.B and when did he move from Kings Lynn to Middlesex  ???

Are there any dates on the medals  ???

Yes, Simon....William Gordon Steeles born 28th July 1885 at Marham near Kings Lynn.

I don't know exactly when he moved away from home, but his mother died in 1904 and I have a feeling it was fairly soon after that.

The Lynn Borough Medal has 1904-1905 on it.

The Middlesex County FA medal has Midweek Cup 1908 - 1909 on the back of it.

The other medal has no writing on it at all.
