Record Copying Fees

Hi Mick,

Just a thought.
 As Canada is part of the Commonwealth and they were sent out to Canada as part of the Home Children emigration scheme in 1890. a government programme?
I was wondering if it could be covered under the Freedom of information act to get the information?
It might be worth looking into.

There is unfortunately a huge difference between paying £50 pounds for information about intimate family which proves invaluable and paying the same sum in order to make a minor step on a line of research.  I agree that it is worthwhile in the former but frequently can't justify it in the latter case.

I agree, but in this case, we are talking about a gg grandfather. I often don't get indirect ancestors certificates unless I it will be the only place to obtain the information (as with my gg grandfather's sister's death cert to get parents' names, as they weren't on dear old gg granddaddy's), but for info on my direct line, especially something like these records, I would definitely save my pennies for that.

I applied for the documents from National Archiveds relating to a murder commiitted by my GG Grandfather. There were 150 pages in total and the cost was £130.

As his 7 surviving grandchildren were interested in the contents I obtained them and we split the costs between us

Would it be worth you asking members of your family if they would be willing to share the costs with you. After all they are all related to the two boys and may also like the information.

That's a great idea. I too am going to be getting some court documents. I don't know how many pages and I am doing the research myself, but the copying alone, if I got the whole thing, could be well over $200. It is definitely an expensive hobby.
