Willstrop/Wilstrop
« on: Thursday 15 March 07 09:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for Emma Willstrop born 1883.  I have found her birth entry for 1883 and her marriage entry to Joseph Noble in 1908.  On her marriage certificate it says her father was a John Willstrop.

I cannot find them in the census records anywhere though.  Can anyone help me please or indeed a baptism record or anything.

Many thanks
Regards

Julie

I thought maybe David Hick Willstrop got his middle name from his mother but it might be from a previous generation?

John Willstrop marriage September quarter 1875 York 9d 103 to either Mary Broadhead or Mary Isabel Stead.

I suspect the entries for 1861 and 1851 are the same person, so it would be interesting to link the two families

Interesting -

I found on the IGI the entry for Sarah Alicia Wilstrop, christening 18 January 1846 Rufforth, parents Robert and Sarah, so matching the daughter in the 1861 census and also a Mary Hannah 14 April 1850 Rufforth and Elizabeth 15 October, 1844   Rufforth

The list also showed up a group of christenings of children to a Robert Wilstrop and Elizabeth, obviously a previous generation, some on 6th October 1816 and some on 19th December, 1816, one on 22 March, 1818, so these may well be the same family having a couple of job lots of christenings done (names are all different) but couple be two different families, but what caught my eye was a David Hick Wilstrop, christened 19 December 1816 Rufforth, I would suspect that it's too much of a coincidence for these not to be connected to the David Hick Willstrop found in later censuses.  One of those on 19th December 1816 was a Robert, so again probably the one in the Rufforth 1861 census.

Also a Robert Wilstrop married Elizabeth Hick  July 1802   Rufforth

These are all "extracted" entries transcribed from the local Parish Registers, however, you would still be advised to see the originals for yourself.

Julie

It would be good to speak to you as my one-name study is Willstrop/Wilstrop. Where are you based?

I have a lot of information on many branches of the family and the history of Wilstrop Village.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Penny

Emma Wilstrop was the daughter of John Wilstrop born 1841 and Mary Broadhead living in William St, York.  With respect to her father John I found his baptism when in York Library. Family were living in Queen St or Queen Staith near Tanner Row, York when he was baptised on 28 Nov 1841 All Saints Church, North St, York eldest son of Thomas Wilstrop and Jane ( I think this is Jane Skilbeck, marriage 19 Jul 1841) Miller by curate W E Harrison. The family moved to Nun Mill and he appears to be the only survivor of the family as 6 siblings and parents were all dead by 1854. Their records are in the parish of St Mary's Bishophill Senior. John was with his maternal aunt Mary Lumley age 9 in 1851 in Askham Richard and in Rufforth with paternal uncle Robert Wilstrop in 1861 stated as born Rufforth not York where he was born.
