Why do you say his parents were dead?

The marriage to MARY (between 1851 -1855) is yet another 'to-do' task.  Not on the IGI & not on Pallots & not on Familyhistory online.

There are very few FOOTs in Lymington in the 1841 census so his parents must have moved away or died.

Have you looked for the marriage on the full BMD index?

Have I looked for the marriage on the full BMD Index?  No, as it wouldn't give me the spouse's name, which was what I was after.  But in light of what Valda has given me I'm going to look for the entry, that way I'll have a year if not her maiden name.
I see what you mean about the parents being dead or moved away!

VALDA, you're a star  ;D  I'm going to dive straight into that.  It looks as if Richard & Jane could well be George's parents.  In fact George & Mary are at Victoria Terrace, Portsea in 1881 so that's more than a coincidence that Richard & second wife, Sarah should be at the same address in 1871.  Also the Coastguard connection with father & son's, George & William.

Bearkat, Nell & Valda, Hampshire Hog's RULE  :D  Thank you all so much!

Hi Jane

Had you thought of ordering one of the children's birth certificates ? This would give Mary's maiden name so that you could check against any entry of a marriage for George.

Regards
Sally

If Richard & Jane are indeed the parents of George, they married in Lymington in 1815.  Jane was Jane Edwards.

George may have slipped the net as far as baptism is concerned.  Children in families where the father was often away were sometimes not baptised for a few years, until father was home and a sibling was receiving the treatment.  Alternatively, he may have been born there but baptised somewhere completely different as a result of the family moving.  Just a thought.

Coastguards tended to be posted a long way from their home territory to avoid the possibility of the loyalties being divided.

Hi Sally,
The Foot family is not my main line of research so I'm trying to make headway without forking-out money  ;) but thanks for your input!

Hi Nell,
Yes, the thought struck me that maybe George escaped the baptismal net  :)  If Richard & Jane are his parents, which looks highly likely, it's quite possible, due to the nature of his job, George might have been baptised elsewhere.  In 1841, Richard & Jane are in Kent & I found their son, William at Chatham Barracks in the same census.  Anyway, we've exhausted the Lymington registers for obvious dates now to look for the least obvious  ;D
Many thanks for for that marriage information, it looks like them.  I'm going with this theory until proved otherwise!

NELL, do you have the dates for the baptism's of Harriet, William & Richard Foot between 1815 - 1819?  Also the marriage between Richard & Jane Edwards?

Many thanks,

jane

Oh you're so BRILLIANT  :-*  Where was that information from?  As his parents were in Lydd, Kent in 1841 I think you've cracked it!!!
