Yes but nothing before the 1871 census as he was in Woolwich. I am trying to get info prior to the 1871 census. I assume that they should be in the 1861 census in Alderney along with Mary (Leahy) McElligott, his wife  and their witnesses Robert Brasil and Mary-Ann Brasil.

Thanks

Alain

1861 not much help I'm afraid. Mary Leahy aged 21yrs, born In Ireland and working as a housemaid on Alderney.

Since they were based in Alderney would there be a special census for military people?

Also any trace of the Brasil or Leahy in that census?

Thanks

Alain

Mary is the only Leahy in Alderney in 1861 (as above). No sign of any Brasils (spell var) in the Channel Islands, and no sign of Michael anywhere.

I don't think there would have been a special census for the military. If he was in barracks he would be named there, but as yet can't see him.
