KISLER Family 1861 - Publicans?
« on: Friday 26 November 04 09:40 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to investigate the Kisler family - fortunately a fairly unusual surname, in this spelling - though I have seen in in some places mistranscribed as Risler! However they moved around a lot, and I can't find them in or around 1961. According to the birthplaces of their children, it appears they may have been in Whitechapel about this time, though their next child was born in 1863 in Essex.

The family is:

Jacob KISLER b 1833 Germany
Mary KISLER b 1837 Whitechapel
Margaret KISLER b 1860ish Whitechapel

I have some information that suggests that there were Kislers running some pubs in the late 1850's - the Prince of Orange, Fieldgate Street, Whitechapel and the White Hart, 43(126) Leman Street, Goodman's fields. I don't know whether they might have been living there too? (Maybe the whole family, or just Jacob, and maybe his widowed mother Elizabeth b 1800, since he only married Mary in 1856)

If anyone can find any information about them, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

Liz
Current investigations Kisler - Suffolk & London, McGraw - Portsmouth,

Not sure if I can help or not.My ancestor Heinrich or Henry Wintien was a publican of the Prince of Orange until about 1850.There may be a possible family connection.Maybe one of his daughters married a Kisler

In 1871, the same property (126 Leman Street) was occupied by a licensed victualler so presumably it was a pub.  And in 1881, it appears to have been unoccupied (i.e. house number missed and no family enumerated).
