Everitt family, Stokyn (Stockyn) Farm , Holywell
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 10:35 GMT (UK) »
I am interested in Herbert and Isabella Everitt and their children Martin Herbert, Mabel Isabel, Hilda, Alfred Gordon, Violet Annie, Lilian, Frederick Norman and Florence Vera. The youngest child, Florence Vera, was born at Stokyn Farm on 10 October 1902. Herbert was a farmer and the family lived at Stokyn Farm from about 1902 to 1906. After that I think they moved to Mold.

I have 2 old photoes taken during my grandparents (Fred and Jean Everitt) trip to Wales, in 1955, which have the inscriptions "Stokyn Hall farmhouse Wales 14/5/55 where Fred lived as a boy 1900-1906" and "Stokyn Hall Greenfields Wales 14/5/55 Mr and Mrs Jones, Fred, Jean, Miss Jones". They are beautiful black and white photoes. Could any one tell me would these be  the same Jones family whose descendants currently have Stokyn Hall and farm? I found a current photo on the web of Stokyn Hall, and my photo looks like it is of the same place.  My query is I wondered if someone might know something about the time when the Everitt family lived at Stokyn Farm or about the Everitt family? I would sincerely appreciate anything you can tell me. Thank you very much.

First of all a very warm welcome to Rootschat.I first found the Marriage of a Herbert Noble Everitt and an Isabella Otter at Chester in 1882.It appears that they only moved to Holywell after the 1901 Census, for in 1901 Herbert N and Isabella and all the children you mention were living at Barnston Cheshire.Herbert's Occupation is given as Farm Bailiff, and he was born in Peterborough Northamptonshire in c 1859,Isabella was born in Liverpool in c 1863,and all the children were born in Barnston Cheshire.I hope this helps.

William,
First, thank you very much for the welcome. Yes, you have the right family. I think I had already had those details, but I am pleased you replied so quickly. As you say, all the children listed on the 1901 census were born in Barnston, Cheshire. There were 2 elder girls, Amelia Adelaide and Edith, who were working and living away from home in 1901 who I have found on the census. The family emigrated to Western Australia in 1911.

The story told by my Mum, who is Fredericks daughter, is that Herbert was a well to do vet before he came out to Western Australia, but I haven't been able to find anything about that so far. I hope to find a little more about their lives - what did they do while living at Stokyn Farm and Mold for example?

I was wondering why there are not many Everitts on North Wales BMD!There is only two Marriages listed;Amelia A marrying a Joseph S Sumner at Cilcain St Mary's in 1908,also Mabel I marrying a John D Williams at Whitford St Mary and Bueno in 1910.

Yes, thats right.  I have the marriage certificate of Amelia Adelaide Everitt and Joseph Steadman Sumner, but I didn't know about Mabel Isabel's.  That is really great! Thank you. I wonder where Mabel settled? Amelia and Joseph came out to Western Australia a couple of years after the family, and stayed with the Everitt's until they could set up their own house and then ran a small shop and postoffice agency. Well done.

As far as finding what happened to Mabel and John D Williams, all I can suggest is to trawl through the GRO Birth Index for Williams, for the Mother's maiden name is included with the entry from the July Quarter of 1911.The only problem being of course, that it will be a painstaking task,as there are literally thousands of Williams Births!Of course they will hopefully be included in the 1911 Census, when it is due for general release.

Thank you for the tips. Yes, I agree that a search of GRO Birth Index will be next big task for finding Mabel and John D Williams children.

Hope to hear from also from someone who knows about whether the Everitt family were tenants at Stokyn (Stockyn) Farm as I presume they were as it seems unlikely they owned it? And where they lived in or near Mold?

Hello Paul,

I am much obliged for that information. I have also been emailing separately offboard with the great granddaughter of the Mr and Mrs Jones that I mentioned in my earlier posts. A member of the Jones family still has Stockyn Hall.  Her father remembers being told of a Miss Everett (different spelling same family I think) who was a housekeeper for a Mr Jones (no relation) of Kinsale Hall Mostyn (1mile away from Stockyn Hall) Her father was told this many years ago by John Williams who was the bailiff in Kinsale for her fathers Grandfather.

So your information and her information look like they tally, which is really great.
