I've just started researching my Sentance side of the family. My great grandma Elizabeth Sentance, born 1858, Norwell, Nottingham. She married Henry Bartholomew Carter (from Roxby, Lincolnshire) in 1883, Hawton, Notts and they moved to Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Their marriage certificate shows her father as William Sentance, Shepherd.  I recently entered these details on FamilySearch and it appears from the Tree on there that John Isaac Sentance could be her father and I have left a message on there in case anyone visits the page to ask if John could be William as often back then, different names were used. However, not seen any records of John Isaac Sentance having the name William, but John was also a shepherd and in that family. John's wife was Mary Horton and the witness on Elizabeth and Henry's marriage was Henry Horton. Would love to hear from anbody who might have an idea.  Also, I have seen from these messages and another forum that there is a Facebook forum for Sentance family but have not been able to find it.  Thanks

It looks as if Elizabeth was a witness to her sister Sarah Ann's marriage in 1881, Sarah Ann's father named as JOHN, occ labourer, the other witness to the marriage was a John Sentance

Sarah Ann Sentance age 17 married 4 Apr 1881 Hawton, All Saints, Nottinghamshire
Spouse George Carnell - image available to view on Anc*y as is Elizabeth's
Nottinghamshire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1937

Have added a snippet of the signatures from the marriage records on Anc*y

Is it possible that a mistake was made on Elizabeth's marriage for whatever reason and her brother William's name given  :-\ as all the following siblings marriages  father named John - images available on Anc*y

father John, shepherd,
one with William Sentence

Mary’s marriage 1889 to Richard Hitchcock
father John, labourer
Witnesses Fanny & Charles Seward

Walton’s marriage 1897 to Louisa Johnson
