I am researching a davidson family in Forres. My g.grandparents were Janet Mackay born Golspie, Sutherlandshire and John Davidson ,a stone mason, born Ardclach in 1824,a son of Alexander Davidson and Eliza Donaldson. John and Janet were married in Golspie in1847and their eldest daughter was born in Golspie. She lived with her maternal grandparents in Dornoch until she married my grandfather, Thomas Matheson ,in 1873. John and Janet moved to Morayshire and were living at 15 North Back Street Forres with daughter Isobella in 1851.In 1861 they were living at 398 High Street with children .....Isobella ,Janet,Alexander,Johanna and William and by 1871 they had moved to 382 Hish street Forres.John died there on 2.5.1879 and Janet died at 294 High Street on 6.1.1886.Does anyone know anything about this family or their descendents? I would be grateful for any information .     Ray Mackay Scourie.

The moray lib index shows that John died 02 MAY 1879, his Headstone ref no is  Fc817 his death notice was in the Forres Gazette on the 06/05/1879 Page 3 column 6 and was also in the Moray Weekly News    09/05/1879 page 2 column 5
His Occ was Mason
His wife  is in the same grave headstone ref as above. her death was in the Forres Gazette on the 12/01/1886  page 3 column 6

have not found anything on children would need D.O.B, and where born,

You could also try Writing to Grant Lodge they would send you print outs of the death notices from the papers,

Also you could write to Seeking the Past section of the Northern Scot and see if you can find any connections there   http://www.northern-scot.co.uk/

The above information i found on the Moray Libindex  http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

you will find the contact email address to ask about copies of newspaper notices,
just give them name of newspaper, the date page and column numbers and the name of the person,
hope this helps

I know that Lily was an only child and she died many years ago.She must have given my fathers name as next of kin.He was told that because she did not leave a will, all her money went to the crown .He never questioned that statement. However he did get all her personal effects........a tatty old handbag containing a comb ,with teeth missing .A powder compact with a broken mirror.A cheap looking brooch and an empty coin purse.Big deal ! Thought I would give all you folks a laugh.Ray

This is true I worked in a phyciatric hospital in Glasgow and seen that many a time where there was no will and there were licing rellies and all there money goes to the crown, some times the personal effects left are very sad, but they often mean the world, even a cheap broach.
