Hi Lesley,

I'm still a little confused.  Did George and Alice come to Canada and then went back to England before 1901 where Stan was born?  Did Alice die in England or Canada?

You mention Winnie's grandson, Philip in Ontario.  Did Winnie go back to England with Alice and immigrate later?

Sorry for all the questions but from my end it looks like they were only in Canada for about 5 years?  (1895 from your first question to the birth of Stan in 1901).

Hi Again,

I just found the family on the 1901 census of England.  Here are the details of the location:

George C Rumsey 30
Alice 25
Alice 3
Stanley 1
Elizabeth Eley 26  (Visitor)
Willie Eley 4
Alice Eley 8mo.

RG13/565, Folio 115, Page 3
Woolwich, London, England

Based on this information, I think the immigration must be after 1901.

Hi nancy,

my mother told me that alice , and george migrated to canada for a year or 2 , then returned to the u.k . then stan, and alice were born. alice snr then run off with a bobby hammond, taking alice, and stan with them. Alice snr did have another child whilst in canada, that was winifred, who did stay in canada, along with alice, and stan. I do know george died in the u,k.[ashfor, kent in 1925, I do not know where alice snr died in 1938, but I do not know where. philip is the great grandson of winnie.

lesleyp,

How many different threads are there on this topic?

Can you post links to each one so that our wheels don't all spin in the same direction, please?   We're all asking the same questions.

On one thread they went to Ontario, on another they went to Quebec and on another they went to Manitoba?

 :)

Thanks,
Josephine

sorry josephine, when I posted the other notice , I could not find it, that is why I posted here. alice snr, and george first went to ontario, then returned to the u.k....when alice went back to canada with bob hammond, thay went to ontario, where winifred was born. They then went to manitoba, I do not know how long for. Alice and bob hammond finally  settled in quebec...sorry for the confusion.

kind regards

I can fill you in with some later wherabouts of George Rumsey he was my GRANDAD.. In 1911 he ws living with Alice his wife 34 years Stanley 11 Leonard 9 Winifred 8 Doris 3 Arthur 2 and Irene 2. I am only just learning about this part of the family. I believe after Alice ran off taking the children he went to live with AMY TARRY my Grandma .. She walked out on her two girls and a boy locking them in a room and may have taken a boy with her. She then had GEORGE and CHARLES  and then in 1922 she had my Dad EDWARD RUMSEY ... Hope that helps
