Descendants of John Amer
« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 08:34 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to contact living descendants of John Amer born 1779 in Wiltshire.

John married Mary Hillman in 1776 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.  They apparently moved to London but had property known as The Manor, Doynton.

I would very much like to hear from anyone who is related to John and Mary as it would help with the research of my family tree.

I know that a number of the Amers had properties in London, Birkenhead and also Gloucester.  Any assistance anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Hello, I am descended from Elizabeth Amer who was born in 1790s. Her brother John became Lord of the Manor of Doynton and her nephew William succeeded him. Please get in contact.

Hi blotcopy

I am actually a descendant of John Amer Lord of the Manor in Doynton.  He married Mary Hillman in 1776 and his son Stephen Amer born 1781 is my sixth GG Grandfather so John is my seventh GG Grandfather.

I can give you quite a bit of info from thereon but I am interested as up until about 18 months ago we did not know about Elizabeth as she is the daugter of John and Mary Amer.

Would love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Cheryl (Kinn)

I'm really pleased you've replied! Elizabeth is my ggg grandmother. The earliest information I had about her is: born 5 July 1793, the daughter of John and Mary Amer.  In a later census her place of birth is given as Shoreditch. We had established the connection with Doynton but didn't know whether the family came from South Gloucestershire area to London or vice versa so you have answered that question really, and I take it that Trowbridge is the place to investigate. The family seems to have had a great deal of property and Elizabeth had a handsome marriage settlement. John is described in one document as a Miller in ?Church End Stepney I recall.
At the moment I have other things on my plate but will go through the papers and write again in about 10 days time - but keep in touch. I am sure that I have information that will interest you. and I am delighted to have the date of John and Mary's marriage.
Kind regards,
Elisabeth (blotcopy)

Hi Elisabeth,

thanks for replying. I am sure that between us we can get through quite a bit.  I did try to get a copy of John and Mary's marriage certificate from Wilshire but have not had a reply.  If you do manage to get a copy can you let me also have a copy.  If you need anymore info please do let me know.

I have a picture of the Manor House at Doynton which I took about 2 years ago.  I also have quite a lot of history about the family if your interested.

Kind regards

Cheryl (Kinn)
