Couldn't resist it, my very last one. Keep this one also away from B-I-L's mother....Jane Malcolm, mother of Agnes, married Joseph Davidson as we know in 1881....she was 45 and HE WAS 19  :o :o :o

Night all!

Hi Kargil

Not sure what it is about the Malcolm women but for some reason they like to appear older than they are   ???

Just picking up from last night, trying to get some background on Agnes's mother Jane. Although she showed as 45 in her marriage in 1881, her actual age would appear to have been 35 25, with a birth year of 1856. The 4 on the MC could well be a 2, hard to make out.

This looks like her parents' marriage:

JAMES MALCOLM  Marriages: Spouse:  AGNES JARVEY
Marriage:  MAR 1845   New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

Children showing for this couple including Jane's details (there looks to have been a first Jane who may have died and second Jane born the following year):

1. JANET MALCOLM   Birth: 16 APR 1862 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland
2. MARY MALCOLM Birth: 07 JAN 1866 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland
3. CHRISTINA MALCOLM Birth: 18 APR 1860 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland
4. ROBERT MALCOLM  Birth: 03 APR 1864 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland
5. JAMES MALCOLM Birth: 19 JAN 1868 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland
6. SARAH MALCOM Birth: 28 APR 1858 Cambusnethan, Lanark/ Death: 20 JAN 1941 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
7. JANE MALCOLM Birth: 22 FEB 1855 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
8. JANE MALCOM Birth: 14 APR 1856 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

I'll have a look for the family in the 1861 Census.

Regards.

Monica

Family's 1861 Census entry:

James Malcolm    41, coal miner, b. Datgetty, Fifeshire
Agnes Malcolm    33, b. New Monkland,
Agnes Malcolm    13
John Malcolm    12
Margaret Malcolm 10
Betsy Malcolm    8
Jane Malcolm    5
Sarah Malcolm    3
William Russell 3
Christina Malcolm 11 Mo

Address: Tarbush Row, Cambusnethan, Lanark

Kargil, if you want to find out a lot more about the family, I would look at the 1855 birth cert for the first Jane. The first year of official reg. in Scotland, the BMDs ran over two pages of the register and included a wealth of additional info on the parents: where they were from, ages, occupation, how many children they'd had (alive/deceased) etc. Certainly one to look at.

Regards.

Monica
