SS Dalhanna (Cargo. Dempster Line 1943 ?) DEMS Gunners

Searching for pictures or photo of SS Dalhanna cargo ship built 1930 Wm. Beardmore & Company, Dalmuir. In 1941 was under the British & Burmese  S.N. (Paddy Henderson) and in 1946  the Ulster S.S. (G.Heyn)

An ex Naval colleauge of mine served on it as a DEMS Gunner and was responsible at age of 18 years in downing two Heinkels in Algiers harbour, 1943.

I would like to present him with a photo of him annotated on the ship's photo as a  memento.

Any help in obtaining the above information would be greatly appreciated.

john,have you 'Googled' for all combination,s of the ship,s name+war zone,+d.e.m.s action,s etc?
Not much available there,there are also m.n site,s to take a look at,and one very good bloke at this sort of thing is Billy McGee,whose reference as usual,I
can't find right now!
Have go and see what come,s up.

Don't know if I can find an actual photo of the ship ..... it got "bounced "around a bit .... I did find a later date photo though .... don't know if that's any good !!

Hi Annie,

Many thanks for the reply and the pictures  were very interesting  but the Dalhanna shown was a later one as was the the usual practise as they carried on the names. This ship appears to be elusive but somewhere there might be one lurking in someones collection.

Anyway thanks for the info and will bear this one in mind.

Just as an afterthought .... I think theres a postcard on this site of the Dalhanna .... but I couldn't get it !! ..... you might want to take a look !!

 Just so that there is no confusion, the picture on your message 16:11:12 is one that i had downloaded earlier but unfortunately it is a tanker and was obviously a later ship.

john,the earier addy i passed on, BBC ww2 peoples war,will give you a dems gunners link,and a lead to Billy McGee.there are a lot of people looking for info;on this subject,no mention of Dalhanna though.
