Hi
How safe is it to visit the cemetery as I was there 2 years ago and the grass was waist high and looked very unsavoury so did not venture in on my own.

I think I read quite recently that they're putting work into making it tidy again.

Hi Kate,

Can you tell me if there is someone willing to enter the site - Beckett St cemetery. I visited Leeds in 2006 as indicated and decided it was unsafe to enter on my own. I am planning to revisit in July this year and would really like to see my gtgtgrandparents graves.
cheers
sharon

Hi,
I still wouldn't consider it very safe. I am working at St James's and there was someone assaulted in the cemetery a couple of months ago in broad daylight.
I wouldn't recommend going without a male friend or 2 and don't take a bag or anything obvious that people might want to steal.
I make it sound awful don't I. I promise not all of Leeds is like that!!! The cemetery is a favourite haunt for people with substance abuse issues though.
