Beckett St Cemetery Leeds
« on: Friday 23 February 07 08:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Does anyone have access to the Registers for burials/graves at Beckett St Cemetery Leeds.  I understand the fiche are available at Leeds library (and other places) I'm looking for information on the burial or graves for the following families:
Gleisner and Henke. I have some of the dates
Thanks,
Newbie

I've checked the National Burial Index which lists burials at Beckett Street between 1845 and 1992, but this is all there is -

1890   Matilda   GLEISNER      Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
1913   Henrich   GLEISNER      Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
1931   Oscar F G   GLEISNER      Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
1945   Alice   GLEISNER      Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds
1955   Catherine MatildaGLEISNER     Beckett St Cemetery, Leeds

There are no entries at all for Henke in WRY

Hope this helps

Hello.  Try Yorkshireindexers.co.uk (it used to be LeedsIndexers - you have to register)  They have just updated the Leeds Cemeteries/Burials CD  It costs £10 either by cheque or online.  It's great value and has all Leeds Cemeteries listed with every known person buried in them.  I don't have the latest edition so I cannot check for you.  I hope this helps.  Good luck

Hi,
Just to add to the information already supplied by Clare;
Matilda Gleisner died March 16th 1890 aged 37 years. Grave number 10651.
The others all have the same plot number 21651 but I can't find a headstone.
The cemetery has suffered quite a lot of vandalism so whether it was destroyed or there never was one I can't tell you.
Happy Hunting,
Kate.

Kate,
That's great, thank you very much for that information, it's much appreciated. Did you visit the cemetery?

Hi Newbie,
First I looked it up via Yorkshire Indexers, but then I did have a walk around.
To be honest I had been to a hospital appointment at St James' Hospital near the cemetery and had some spare time. The cemetery is vast so if you ever plan a visit do use the indexers first as it gives plot numbers and a plan of the cemetery.
Matilda's grave is shared by several others who all have different surnames and don't seem to be linked in any way, but this is quite common. The inscription is listed on the index.
Happy hunting,
Kate.
