Hi,
I am descended from Gays in the Bristol area, mainly Bitton and Siston.  In fact " separate Gay families from the same area!  Wonder if we connect.

One side goes back to a Thomas Gay who married Mercy Perryman in 1840 and had 8 children.  The other side goes back to George Gay who married Michal Hale in 1855.  Their son Henry Pearson Gay married Thomas and Mercy's daughter Amelia.  Henry and Amelia are my great grandparents.  Ring any bells?

Emma Elizabeth Coe married Enos GAY (Master Carpenter) March 1864
1871 Emma and Enos in Bedminster
1881    "                     in Redcliff Bristol
1891      "                   in Bedminster 
They had 6 children........i have details if this ties in anywhere with your search.

Very many thanks for your response but mine are from the Siston, Bitton and Oldland area of Bristol.  I am not able to link into any you mention but will bear them in mind as I continue the quest!!
