Thanks. This is not the William Villiers I am looking for but I needed to eliminate him. The one I want is William H Villiers born 1819 in Burton on Trent. I thought the letters and numbers might have been mistakenly transcribed. I'm ever hopeful! The William I am looking for is on the 1861,71 and 81 Censuses for Eynesbury Hunts. I can find his death but am no further forward finding earlier details.

I have a birth certificate for Edwyn and mother is named as Ann, formerly Brealy. This surname is Breary on another child's birth certifiacate. I have been unable to find a marriage certificate or a death for Ann.
                            Thanks for your help

Hi Yvonne

He covered his tracks well, didn't he!

Is it accepted that Ann Brealy who moved down from Yorks to Bolnhurst/St Neots/Eynesbury with the rest of her family is the mother of the first three children, and she never married William Villiers? I must confess I find it hard to get my head round the thought that three young children would be left with their father and his servant, with the mother living elsewhere in the parish. Doesn't sound right.

I cannot find William either in 1851 - is it possible he could have been in the army, although he's never referred to as a Chelsea pensioner? 32 is getting on a bit to have his first child? Did he have a wife and children, hence him perhaps changing name and not marrying either of the mothers of his children?

This is a tough one!

Regards

David
