Help please: Alice Elizabeth Holden - Failsworth
« on: Monday 19 February 07 23:03 GMT (UK) »
A good friend of mine is trying to find out details of the lady I believe is her grandmother.  Her name was Alice Elizabeth Holden nee Wylde, and she died in Failsworth.

Her problem is that she needs to find out the date of her birth & death.  I've tried to find this out through various searches, but have so far drawn a blank.  If there's any way anyone can help that would be enormously appreciated.

She believes that Alice was born circa 1909-1911, possibly in Failsworth, and died in 1996, again in Failsworth.

With best wishes & all fingers crossed.
Joe

There is an Alice Elizabeth Wylde born in Dec 1908, but it is in Poplar, not Lancashire. Freebmd is pretty good for that time.
I suggest you buy her marriage certificate, which would give her father's name, and then you could order the birth certificate with a check on the father.
How sure are you of the death date?
There is an Elizabeth Alice Holden who died in the Oldham district in Jan 1996 whose birth is listed as 11 June 1905, but it doesn't give a maiden name. There is an Alice Wild listed for Oldham in Sep 1905; they may have registered the birth late.

Are you sure you have the correct spelling for her maiden name?
Does your friend know her grandfathers christian name?

Hi mate

I think  I can do a little better than that :D

My name is Simon Griffiths, father robert, his grandmother was Edith Griffiths does this mean anything to you?

Alice I believe came to my fathers house on many occasions and was a close friend of Edith (as she has come up in many conversation about the "old days" with my father)

Also the Wilde family rings a few bells to me I am sure it has been mentioned also.

I do believe my father still has photographs of the Holdens and if you are still looking for further information then please PM/ email me and let me know.

Simon

Hi Simon

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Please don't feel offended if jb72 does not reply, I noticed how old this thread was so looked at his profile and last time he logged into rootschat was Friday 21 May 10 01:00 BST (UK)

But I hope he still looks in, it sounds like you can fill a lot of detail in.

Regards
Ken
