Hello Frances,

Thanks for that swift reply. I think the 1851 Hughes's are probably mine, as the ages fit so well and it shows Anne as being born in Shrops, which the others do not...

William is proving v.tricky to find in 1861 althought I have his marriage in 1874 and then the  census after that.

Anyway thanks for your help

Regards

Hello again Frances,

I cannot find Merion in Shrops. I'm wondering if it means Merionethshire in WALES, and so that would unfortunately mean she is not MY Anne after all!

The mystery deepens

Does anyone out there know this area   Please!!

Thanks again Frances

Is the 1841 census the only evidence you have that Ann was born in Shropshire?
Perhaps the 1841 census is wrong; it's easier to go wrong with a Y/N answer than when writing in a place name. He may just have started writing 'Yes' a line early. The fact that the enumerator put Shropshire against Corwen (which is in Merioneth) in 1851 shows the confusion possible.

Hello Richard,
Yes I see what you mean. The 1841 is the only proof I have at the moment, so it seems likely that Anne WAS born in Wales.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Any help or suggestions always appreciated
