Charlie/Charles Dadswell 1901 Please
« on: Saturday 17 February 07 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi all.

I'm missing information on Charles/Charlie Dadswell b1878 after the 1891 census. I also have the same problem with his sister Edith Martha Dadswell b1862.

Both were born in Laughton & registered in Hailsham.

The last known whereabouts for Charles was Laughton 1891, the last known place for Edith Martha was Streatham, London/Surrey as a servant 1891.

I've checked the BMD for marriages & deaths between census' for both but nothing has come up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Could he be the 27 year old Railway Porter who says he's born Uckfield, boarding with the Trubridge family in Portswood, Hampshire?  RG13; Piece: 1068; Folio: 62; Page: 24

I notice Uckfield isn't very far from Laughton which might be a small village and so he claimed Uckfield as being the nearest large town? and probably within the Hailsham registration district.

We have a family mystery regarding the DADSWELLs. This is from my notes for John BEENEY who married my ancestress Sarah CROUCH b1867:

Resided 1 Poplar Cottage in Hollington, Battle Dist, Rye, Sussex; John is listed as a Labourer on a Railway. His son Percy is 15 and is a grocery assistant.

In 1901 there is a Daniel Dadswell or Dodswell living with this family. He is age 50, b abt 1851.

This Daniel was a lodger. When John and Sarah came to Canada they brought with them a boy named William H. D. BEENEY. When William married, he gave his name as William Henry Dadswell Beeney. We know of no relationship to this person, but there is one possibility. John Beeney was married prior to Sarah, Perhaps his wife was a Dadswell, and Daniel was her relative. William may have been Daniel's son, but this remains conjecture. I've never been able to find a marriage for John previous to Sarah.

If any of this rings a bell for anyone, it would be a sound I'd love to hear.
