Hi all,

Sorry for bumping this thread, but does anyone know if this issue was ever resolved? James Brown and Emma Elizabeth Cowley were my great-great-great grandparents, and I too have waded into the 1861 census quagmire.

I did e-mail the OP using her e-mail address from the RootsChat archive site, but I've not had a reply and I don't know if the address is even still in use -- given that the original inquiry dates back to 2007.

Hello James18.  Thank you for getting in touch.  I have not received an email from you previously so apologies for the delay.  I must admit I have given family history research a rest for a number of years for personal reasons.  However, I was interested to learn that you are descended from James Brown and Emma Cowley.  I would be delighted to learn which line you came down.  I am descended from Edward John (or John Edward) Brown, James' and Emma's son.

I regret that I have still not resolved the first marriage question.  Oh to have had ancestors with a less common surname and much more imagination when it came to first names!

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello!

I am so glad that you are still 'around' so to speak, as I had perhaps thought I wouldn't be able to get in touch with you. I e-mailed Mike Gould from the RootsChat archive explaining the situation, and he did give me your e-mail address, but of course being from 2007 it may not still be in use.

I did send you a PM yesterday (I think) so we could perhaps swap contact details there if possible.

We can rule this out:

Name:   James Brown
Gender:   Male
Marital Status:   Single
Marriage Date:   30 Dec 1862
Marriage Place:   Bristol, St Matthias, Gloucestershire, England
Father:   William Brown
Spouse:   Elizabeth Newton

I purchased the certificate, which gives James' occupation as baker and his father (still alive) as an inn keeper. :(

I have changed your email to the one that you had suggested, it is no good using an email address that you are rarely using. I have now removed the email from your posting as this is how spammer pick up on your email address and send spam.
