Watt family from Cairney
« on: Saturday 17 February 07 17:44 GMT (UK) »
I am the GGG/S of John and Jane Watt of Cairney. From information I have gleaned from the 1851 and 1861 census, they had eight children in total, two of whom died in childhood(William and John) I am related through their son Alexander (latterly Ardross and Allness died 1894,buried Rosskeen).I am trying to find out information on Isabella(23 in 1861 census) George (14 in 1861 census) Jane (8 in 1861 census) and Mary Ann (5 in 1861 census) and their issue.Would be very grateful for any help.
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
I'm new to this but this family is a part of my tree. I joke I'm related to everyone in Cairney. John and Jean/Jane had 10 children and I've descendants for quite a few of them but not your line. hope you'll look at this agian. Annie.

Hi Annie!
Nice to have my first reply! I'm very much an amateur at all this, but have become very interested over the last year. How do you fit into this tree? In September I visited Ruthven, where large numbers of this family are buried.I was armed with plot/lair numbers but drew a blank (perhaps they were too poor to have stones erected?)
The most information I have gathered(apart from my great grandfathers family) are on his two brothers George and James who moved to Inverness, both having large families of their own. Many of their decendants are/must still be in Inverness although unfortunately none are known to me.
My late mother Alice Hirst (Macpherson) born in Inverness, must have had many relatives there, but never mentioned them,so I assume she to was unaware of their existence.... such a shame,I feel robbed!

PS Jock Watt family tree (ancestry.com)  has HUGE numbers of relatives with their details, definately worth a look!

Hi Nigel
I've been looking into my family tree for 30 yrs. I've nearly 4000 folk on my tree but I've never been on anything like this before. Wish I had. One word of caution about posted trees. Take everything with a pinch of salt until you are familiar with the researcher and know they check stuff and don't just pick a person rightish age and place and decide that's their ancestor. I'll certainly look at your Watts though. I know I have looked at one in the past but they had one of mine who died at age 10 married with family. How they'd done that when they'd also got his birth & death dates is beyond me.
I've a MI for your Watts but it might now be invisible.
MI Ruthven
Erected by John Watt, Ruthven, in memory of his children; John who died 1st Oct 1834 aged 3 mths.
Mary Anne died 18 May 1873 aged 17 yrs; The above John Watt died 12 Jan 1884 aged 78 yrs; also his son Charles who died 28 Feb 1893 aged 57; Also Jane Thomson beloved wife of the above John Watt, who died 15 June 1895, aged 82 yrs.
ALSO same family
MI Ruthven In memory of James Innes, late postman, Ruthven, died 27th October 1956 aged 59 years. Also Alexander G Watt Post Office Ruthven died 31st January 1957 aged 74 years.
It would take me a while to work out how I'm connected to these Watts but it's through the McPhersons and Piries (both Cairnie) and Stephens Grange.
Do you want to ask questions or will I send whole Watt tree I have?
Annie

Hi Annie,
I'd love to see the whole Watt tree if possible.I remember the Pirie connection, also a stone at Ruthven, with that name?John Watt (my ggg/father) seems to have gravitated from being a ploughman to running the post office/stores with his wife (Jane) who continued after his death along with son Charles.

Hi,
I hope this is not too late - I have almost taken my wife's tree as far as we want. So our info may not be of interest to you.
However she is a direct descendant of the Watts from Mains of Sheils, Cairnie.
Always interested to hear confirmation of old info. and of new.

Regards, Dad_of3.
