Hi Kimmy!

Welcome to Rootschat!  You will get plenty of help here  :D

For starters, have you checked the online immigration lists at the NSW Records office?

http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archives/indexes_online_3357.asp#ImmigrationampShippi

They are by no means comprehensive, particularly if your man came out on his own money (i.e. not assisted).

There are several other places to look for immigration records and other Rootschatters will no doubt fill you in on those.  I'm not so crash hot on other States (colonies, back then) as all my lot came into NSW.

Cheers
Prue

Which state in Australia was the marriage?
That might give you an idea of where he came in.
Do you know his occupation ?
Sussex?
Census?
Wedding cert?

Both NSW & Vic are patchy, although Vic seems better (at least for my lots)
SA you have a bit of a hope as people are putting stuff up all the time. QLD = good luck {:-( (swmbo keeps telling me).

Hi Kimmy

You could also try the Queensland immigration records which are now on-line.
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/indexes.asp

I suggest you start with the marriage cert if you haven't already got it.
As well as giving you both parents names for the bride and groom, the witnesses may be the clue to which boat they came out on.

This was the case for my G-grandparents where there is no passenger list, but we have found their witnesses mentioned in other documents and it names the boat they travelled on, which we were able to trace through old newspapers.

Kimmy,
There is a specific page here on Rootschat dealing with Emmigrants to Oz.  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,165.0.html

If you can't find what you need through the links given, maybe one of the Rootschatter's can help,

jane
