I went from the main page up top right where it says search.
Then entered Hyde in 'Keyword' and Berkshire Record Office in 'Location of Archives' Then pressed search.
You get a list of lots of different hits...I just clicked one on the off chance and that's what turned up.

Thanks David, I was aware that you can photograph in the BRO and of the cost, it apparently would be more difficult to understand (legibity). I did post a message on the look up request of the Berks board and got a reply from Newburychap to say there is a will for Nicholas Hide on the Wiltshire wills site. Unfortunately when I put the ref no in it returns no matches. I do not know what I am doing wrong so have asked him if he can elaborate.   It appears that I could download the will for free. Kesannah

The reference is from a different RO, and for different will. The will on the Wiltshire Wills Project site is for Nicholas Hyde who died in 1538 - not the one in the Heelas papers at the BRO which is from 1618. Obviously there could be a connection - same name same place - just a different century. Just search for Hyde and you will find it (there aren't that many) - can't remember if it is indexed under Nicholas or Nicolas.

If the one in the BRO is of interest you will still need to get someone to abstract it for you.

Don't forget to search under both Hyde and Hide.  The one I found was spelt Hide.

My thanks to you all for your help. I have several Nicholas Hides/Hydes
and have looked at the first spelling. Now will have a look at the other one. The 1538 Nicholas is one of mine and fortunately for me my No2 son lives not too far from Wilts. RO. He would be able to go and get copies for me. Also some of the other Hides are mine and a couple that I am not yet sure about.may well eventually connect.
The Reading one I shall leave the request I have posted and hope that someone can oblige.

The 1538 one is available for a free download - I had a look at it a couple of days back - a great one to use for familiarisation with Tudor handwriting. Unfortunately only a few of the wills are available online at present - the others will be added over time.

Thanks for your reply again Newburychap. I have downloaded the Hide/Hyde wills. Today I am going to try to practise familiarising myself with the handwriting and typing it in modern day English so that others can understand it. I think that could take some time. I have been very grateful for your input. Kesannah

The details I have are:
JOHN HIDE b 1655 Hurst Father Nicholas Hide -Mother Judith Morgan  married Hurst 1649. (Their Son John was born 1687 and baptised St. Mary Reading)

NICHOLAS HIDE b 1622  Hurst Father Nicholas -Mothers name unknown

NICHOLAS HIDE b about 1590 Hurst   father Nicholas Hide-Mothers name unknown

NICHOLAS HIDE b about 1560  Hurst- neither parents name known
