Hi Pixieo5,
I would like to express my sympathy for your early loss of your father.
This is going to be a tough request because many Rootschatters here have access to the Scotlandspeople website but the death records are only up to 1956.
If you can wait patiently for 12 more years or so, you can find out where and when your Father passed away.
Your best bet would be to ask a kind soul here or yourself go down to either cities: Glasgow or Edinburgh where one can view the actual records in person for a fee then if you find a right record--then you can order it for a fee--I think it would be a bit less than you would have to order from the Scottish GRO itself.
I understand that the record office is just across from the train station in Edinburgh!
If you could not make a trip to either offices, you would have to write to the Scottish GRO and pay for the searches and a certificate which they will do on your behalf. Since you know he died in Edinburgh and roughly when, that would be more than enough to go on.
Hope this helps you a bit. I am sorry if it is not on positive note!!
Best wishes,
Tees
