Trying to find birth record for Ellen McElwee, b. Dec 14, 1865, in Derry.  Parents were Peter McElwee, a schoolmaster and Susan(last name unknown).  She was married in the RC parish at Lavey-Termoneeny in 1884 and then emigrated to Canada.

Well,

She's not in the IGi CLS database which probably means that her birth was one of the many that werent registered in the early years. Have you checked the birth indexes? Where in Derry? You could go to parish records or the Griiffiths valuation for her father's household.

Going through older posts and came across this one. By now you might have been able to find more information but if you haven't done so here're a few things to consider.

There's a 1884 marriage for Ellen McElwee to Owen McCarron. Is this your Ellen? If so was is given as the bride's residence on the marriage?

Can't see Ellen's birth but possibly this is a brother:
Peter Hugh McElwee, born 8 Jan.1864 Bellaghy district, son of Peter McElwee and Susan McGurk.

Bellaghy is on the same area as Termoneeny.

Did you check the Lavey Parish website - they have listed their records on line as well as the cemetary and there is an Ellen McElwee buried there???
