Oldham Baptism
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 11:17 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to Oldham Parish registers?

I am looking for the birth of Edmund Garlick. According to census' he was born c 1816 in Oldham. His father was John Garlick, a weaver.

If anyone stumbles across him in the course of their research, do let me know!  :)

Kind Regards

Hello H.A.P.A.  ;D
Have you had a look on the IG.I On Family search There
are a lot of Garlicks on there. using the same church ST Mary in Oldham, there is only one Edmund with a father John, but he was far to early. There is  a Jonn Garlick the father of Jonn Garlick ::) in the time span Edmund was born but i cant find Edmund.

The online parish clerk site

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Oldham/index.html

also has a list of Oldham baptisms for this time frame, but I can't see an Edmund there.

Thanks to both of you for looking!

Yes- there seem to be loads of Oldham Garlicks on IGI but not an Edmund who looks right. Grrr  >:(

This Edmund had the important job of 'nightsoilman' which, when I looked it up, means he emptied the neighbourhood toilets!! I guess he'll turn up eventually....  ::)

I just wondered if the family were Catholics as they are not listed. I know that there are no Catholic Churches in IGI. I was told that  the the CHURCH wouldn't allow them to be copied. St Marys is the name of the C of E parish Church in Oldham. Though the RC Church is also called St Mary's. They can be accessed at the local Interest centre in Oldham.
It was just a thought.
