Woodhorn - George Duncan
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 10:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I'm hoping someone might have access to the parish records for Woodhorn.  I'm looking for the baptism record for George Duncan.  I don't know when he was born, however, he did marry in 1783 (in Longbenton), so I presume he must have been born before the late 1760s.

I look forward to any help.

Kind regards.

Sally.

Hi Sally

On familysearch.org (IGI)there is a record of a George DOWNCAN, b 10 Apr 1756, csd 23 May 1756, Woodhorn, father Wm Downcan. Quite a good match but of course might be wrong! You probably have George's marriage but just in case, Mary Sedgwick, 16 Jun 1783, Longbenton.

Good luck searching

Hi Shirl

Thank you very much for this information.  After I posted yesterday, I realised I had a burial record for a William Duncan (buried 4 Dec 1789) in Longbenton.  He was a Gardener and lived in Killingworth (the same occupation and abode of George on one of his son's baptism record).  I thought William may be George's father, but now I'm almost certain.

Thanks for the information.  I'll be ordering the parish films to see if there is any other useful information.

Sally.

Hi Sally
It’s a long time since you posted this query but I’ve just been posting a general search on George Duncan & came across your post. I’m on Ancestry & there are a lot of trees that include George, who is my 5x g/grandfather. I haven’t seen one that have opted for the baptism here in Woodhorn but that is the one I’m most inclined for I’m just searching around for other corroborating evidence.
If you’re interested in sharing what we each have please do get in touch.
