Hello

That is of great help thank you. The first family was the one I was looking for. I think that Lilly must be a diminutive of Elizabeth. The second Acworth family is made up of Louis Acworth's parents - Louis and Emma (although the ages are a bit approximate) - and some of Louis' siblings. Alfred William is William Alfred, who subsequently marries Elizabeth Beiley (or Bashford - I am not sure which of those is her maiden name). The Bryants do not belong to me.

Thanks to you all again - this is far more information than I was expecting to discover and I am very grateful.

You're welcome Clive. Yes, the ages on these immigration records are often a bit approximate. One of mine took 10 years off his age - probably improved the chances of gaining employment. Don't hesitate to ask if you need more look-ups.

I recently read information re assisted emigration from UK 1850s - the older they were the more they had to contribute to the fare  :o  :o  so many, I think subracted some years!

I found some interesting information on the two boats. On the Queensland digital archive site there is a copy of a diary of a passenger on the Almora from the 1860s and I also found some information - and a picture - of the Duke of Buccleuch and what became of her. Rather them than me...

It's always interesting to find information like that.

One of mine arrived on the Duke of Buccleuch too. You get to recognize the names of the ships - it looks like they contantly sailed back and forth between the UK and Australia. There are usually a few births and deaths on board - must have been dreadful conditions.

Could you post the links to those ships please Clive?

Sure:

The Almora is the fourth one down.

This one has a picture of the boat and tells of its demise:

Hope you find them of interest

Is interest in the Acworth line still alive? Am researching my Acwotrh Grandmother and her descent.
