Edgmond Girls home

Can anyone please give me some pointers as to how I can find out more about this place. I have found a relative 'Olinda Wakeley' who is shown on the 1901 census as being a resident there age 9.

Gillj,

Edgmond is a small village a couple of miles away from Newport, Shropshire.  I did have a quick look for the girls home on Google but nothing came up.

You could try writing to the local Telford & Wrekin Council who may be able to help you find out where exactly the Home was.  Here's the link to the site http://www.telford.gov.uk/twc/twc.htm

Alternatively, the Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury may be able to help you http://www.shropshireonline.gov.uk/archives.nsf/open/71983720B579FD7280256C77003BF70B

Hope this helps!

I have several Wakeleys' on my tree.

My Grandmother Julia (Humpherson ) Leese was house-mother at a school for girls' called "Springfield House" in Edgeley.  I am wondering if this would be the home you are referring to?

I have Olive Wakeley(1895) daughter of Thomas Wakeley and Martha Marie Leese)my connection is through my Leese line)

Hope this will help.

Regards,

Doris
