JENKINSON - TINKER family of Dalston, Carlisle
« on: Friday 09 February 07 02:33 GMT (UK) »
Dear List,
I am trying to find out more on this family
Children of  Joseph JENKINSON & Anne TINKER
Mary Anne JENKINSON  Christening:  13 MAR 1803, Dalston, Carlisle, Cumberland
Joseph JENKINSON  Christening:   07 JUL 1805, Dalston, Cumberland
Margaret JENKINSON  Christening:   31 MAR 1809, Dalston, Cumberland
Margaret  JENKINSON  Christening:  05 JUN 1811,  Dalston, Cumberland

I think Joseph JENKINSON & Ann TINKER married in Manchester - 1 Aug 1793  Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England
and had a daughter Elizabeth JENKINSON Christening: 23 Feb 1794 Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire
Elizabeth JENKINSON married John BROOKES 1818 & died 1836 - all in Manchester.

Does this family sound familiar to anyone?
Do any of the crop up in the 1841 census or later?
Any help at all appreciated!
Cheers,
Trix

I am new RootsChat member living in Wisconsin, USA, have Tinkler family line in the US coming from the union of William Tinkler and Esther Hodgson. Wm born 14 May 1808, Durham, England. Esther born 9 Jul 1809, in England. Married abt 1830 in England. Son Thomas Tinkler, born 22 Jan 1831 and I am a direct decendant. I'm searching for more information of Tinklers in England to continue my search. There are many William Tinklers on the public census. Any help will be appreciated. I subscribe to Ancestry.com as well.

Matthew HALL, the nephew in the 1851 census, is my great great grandfather. He migrated to New Zealand, continued to be a cooper and went on to have 12 children. I am trying to track down his parents ... who would be the brother and sister-in-law of Jane Tinkler nee Hall? Any info much appreciated. (whitekaryn at hotmail ...)
Thanks
Karyn

Hi Karyn, welcome to Rootschat :)

It looks as if Matthew HALL was illegitimate http://tinyurl.com/3aokcuv

He appears to have been with grandparents in 1841 census
Inmoor House, Great Strickland
William HALL 55 Farmer
Mary 60
Matthew 8

His mother's baptism? http://tinyurl.com/2u568vg
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thanks Geoff.

Yes, when I saw the 1841 census I figured 52 was pretty old to have child even more so back in the day! I wondered if William and Mary were grandparents. I suppose 10 years later in 1851 they may have been dead which is why he was with his Aunt and Uncle - the Tinklers.

I have a copy of Matthew's marriage certificate and there is no father listed, just a big black line drawn through the box. So, that would confirm his illegitmacy.

I will now go down the track of William and Mary as grandparents and see if I can find info on their children, to fill in a missing generation.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Regards
Karyn
