Yes please look for him on 1841.  I'm not sure where he was in 1841.  In 1842 he was in Devon, in 1844 Portsmouth, in 1851 Somerset and 1861 Greenwich. Have put feelers out on both the Hampshire and Devon boards for 1841 census.  So if you look as well, maybe he'll turn up.

There use to be a Departmental store in
Leytonstone, East Greater London..called
BEARMANS Ltd...I think the family live Woodford
or Chingford way...
the Store Closed in 1981 'ish

My Great Great Grandfather James shipman's mother was Susan Bearman. The family were at South Weald in Essex in 1836. I don't have any other information about her parents or family.  We think her husband was John Shipman. James and his brother William and their Brother-in -law Samuel Rush were transported to Australia in 1836.  Everyone else stayed in England. Hope this may be of some minor help. I know when I've tried to trace Susan I keep hitting a brick wall.

When I was researching my own family (Fewell) I came across an early Essex Bearman -

Sarah BEARMAN married Simon/Simeon CHILDS at Chignall St James, Essex on 30th August 1752.

This was (I think) the earliest, but not the only, reference to a Bearman in the parish record that I was checking through.

If you haven't checked already - there are some Bearman exchanges on Genforum (but they may be between you guys for all I know !)

Alan Thanks for your post, My William in 1861 is living in Greenwich and is married to Jane, occupation sick attendant, that census gives his birthplace as Barking.
I just havn't found his family there yet any earlier.  I'll keep those Bearman's in mind though, you never know there might be a link eventually.

William's father according to his marriage cert was called William too and was a shoemaker.

I don't have a knowledge of Essex as a county and don't know what areas are near to Barking.

I'll find them eventually

Noticed that you are researching Bearman's of Bocking and seeing as most of mine were either Bocking or Braintree I wondered if we were searching the same family.
I am connected to the Bearman's twice.  My Great great grandfather John Wade married Sarah Bearman c1806 in 1829 and John's sister Catherine Wade married William Bearman born 31 10 1808 Bocking on the 19 7 1829
