Hi Colette

It might be easier if you told us exactly who you are looking for - full name, family members, years and places of birth.

Isleworth is a rather large district, so it might be simpler for us to search that way.

Hi Dave i have access to the all the census's.. i am wanting someone with the 1891 for Middlesex on DISCS as they can do an address search for me.

I do this all the time for people on my Lancashire 1891 discs if the person we are looking for cannot be found..

We have several people on this case and this person cannot be found and we know she is alive.
She did not die untill 1906 in the Brentford area..

Ann McElwain b Middlesex c 1838-1842 various census's and her death age are out a few years each time you see.

Her husband was called Alfred McElwain who says he was born in Liverpool 1834 on the 1881.. on the 1871 he is listed as William McDonald b 1833 Edinburgh.on his death he is Robert McElwain Brenford 1882..

Its a long story but this man married Agnes Elizabeth Frew St Giles in 1853.. by 1857 he remarries an Ann Pope and they go to India were he was a Tailor in the Army..
He is back home again in 1871 with his children all born in India.

Why he uses McDonald we are unsure ...we have never found a death for his first wife Agnes Elizabeth so we wondered did he leave her.. hence the surname change.

Even on some of his childrens baptisms in India he calls himself Mc Donald alias McElwain..

We cannot locate him in 1841 and 1851 under William/Alfred or Robert. so its really frustrating.. he died at Brentford workhouse 1882.. so we are trying to find his wife Ann on the 1891..

McElwain can be transcribed so many ways this is why it is really difficult.. two of hus daughters Georgina & Martha are living in Ealing in 1891.. Ann is not with them.

Thanks for taking an interest i bet you are sorry now haaaaaaaaaaaaa

Thanks Hun thats really kind of you..

Just found Ann in 1891 at 4 Magdale Rd Isleworth spelt MILWAIN born 1835 says British subject b India..
On the 71 & 81 she says born Middlesex.. her son William was still at home age 21 it says born Isleworth .. all her children including William were born in India apart from Georgina.

Gotta find this woman on the 1901 and i am having no luck.
She died in 1906 at the Union Infirmary Isleworth her son Alfred was with her.. address Nelson Rd Whitton Middlesex
Dont know if thats the address for Alfred her son or the infirmary address, as i am helping someone and havent seen the death cert.

Hi Collette,

I would guess Ann would have been living with either William (my Grandad) at 15, Queens Terrace Isleworth or with Alfred Jnr, in Whitton

If the former she would have been left off the list

But more probable she would be living with Alfred because he and his family cannot be found on the 1901 census, Alfreds son Alfred 3 is also missing on the 1901

Alfred Snr's son Joseph and wife Sarah can be found as James & Mary McIlwaine on the 1901

What a Family !!!!!

They could have been living at Meyers Farm, 13, Seaton Road, or in Nelson Road all Whitton Twickenham Middlesex

Alfred was found by someone on the census as McHwan living at Meyers Cottage, Twickenham, but no sign of Ann

She died in the Brentford Union Infirmary which at one time the workhouse & infirmary, Maybe she was in there for the 1901
