A few bits and pieces.

John POSTANS, bap 31 Jan 1836, Middleton-on-the-Hill, Hereford, parents Samuel POSTANS and Hannah.
This seems likely to be Alice's father as age was given as 35 and Middleton, Hereford, as his birthplace in the 1891 census.
Baptized to a Samuel POSTON/POSTONS/POSTANS & a Hannah, in Middleton-on-the-Hill were:
Sarah POSTON 1814
Emma POSTONS 1831
Charlotte POSTANS 1834
John POSTANS 1836
A Samuel POSTONS & a Hannah MAPP were married in nearby Laysters in 1813.
A Hannah MAPP was bap in Middleton in 1792.
(The above records might be two couples - note gap between 1814 and 1831).

1881 census
Despite the discrepancies, I am inclined to accept that these are the same family as that in 1871 and 1891.  From the census information provided on this thread, there are just too many similarities in the ages and birthplaces of the children!  Admittedly it is very puzzling as to why John & Emma would be recorded as George & Ann.
James POSTONS, birth, Birkenhead, Jun qtr 1865, Vol 8a, page 469
- James was recorded as 7 b Birkenhead in 1871; 16 b Cheshire in 1881
Hannah/Annie; birth not yet found.
- Hannah was recorded as 9 (misreading of 4?) b Birkenhead in 1871; Annie recorded as 14 b Cheshire in 1881
Alice POSTONS, birth Birkenhead, Jun qtr 1868, Vol 8a, page 503
- Alice was recorded as 4 (hmm?) b Birkenhead in 1871; 12 b Cheshire in 1881.
Minnie POSTONS, birth, Birkenhead, Dec qtr 1869, Vol 8a, page 451
- Minnie was recorded as 1 b Birkenhead in 1871; 8 (hmm?) b Cheshire in 1881; 18 b Chester in 1891.
Edith ; birth not yet found
- Edith was recorded as 3 b Cheshire in 1881; 16 (hmm?) b Chester in 1891.
Bertha POSTONS, birth Chorlton, Jun qtr 1879, Vol 8c, page 826
- Bertha was recorded as 1 b Manchester in 1881; 12 b Manchester in 1891.

PS: There are some other possible births in Birkenhead, with some dying as babies.
