Crown Glasscutter Master
« on: Sunday 04 February 07 16:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi

On the 1841 census the occupation of my Gt-Gt-Gt-Grandfather is shown as Crown Glasscutter Master, I have asked the question on other websites, and been told it was someone who cut the bull’s-eye glass into square panes, but I have also been told this was someone who cut patterns into glass.
On the 1841 census he was working at the Ravenhead Glassworks, St Helens, Lancashire.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this occupation, and the true meaning of, Crown Glasscutter Master?

Many Thanks, David

Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Stan

It looks like the first explanation give was correct, and not glass engraver.

Thanks Stan, think I will go with that.
