Hi Maureen
Sorry no Hendren in Tarbolton Churchyard. henderson and Drennan are the nearest spellings. As I said before to someone else, there is another more modern cemetery in tarbolton, and I don't have a book for that one. (don't think there is a book for it). It is the cemetery still in use.
sorry I can't help this time

Hello - I'd be really grateful if you could check for a John McGregor who died 1858 age 87 and according to the DC is buried at Tarbolton.  He is listed as a widower but no wife's name mentioned and I am hoping that a MI may prove/disprove his wife to have been Alice or Alison Marshal(l)  Mention of any children on the MI may also help.

Thank you very much  :)

hello mcgregor123
this is what i can find for you from the index:
lair 11    Hugh pearson died failford june 1839 aged 59 and his wife Janet McGregor died 18 oct 1870 aged 86.

lair13    george Bryan farmer in Benston d 6 dec 1849 aged 92 and his wife Mary McGregor d 22 nov 1849 aged 79

lair 250   John McGregor d at West Carngillan (a farm) 11 aug 1904 aged 58 also his wife MAry Shaw d at park Mill 9 aug 1916 in her 69th year.

doesn't appear to be an older one for the previous John McGregor, but these may help you trace folk a bit.
sorry no sign of any Marshalls at all. Many of the older graves have no memorials at all.
how have you got on with Scotlands People site looking for a marriage for him? or on a census return?

good hunting

Thanks very much for checking for me.  I know that the John McGregor I am looking for was married to Alice/Alison Marshal(l) and that he died before 1859, probably in Ayrshire, and I have this Death Cert but I can't say if it is for the right JM or not.  It may be that he died before 1855, but if there had been a MI with the wife &/or children's details, I would have hit the jackpot!

If family history was straightforward, we wouldn't do it!  Many thanks for taking the time to check.

McGregor

Hello
I wonder if you could look up in the index for me. I have James Muir marrying Margaret McGrigour on 10 Nov 1797 at Tarbolton. Can you see anyone in the churchyard likely to belong to this couple?
many thanks,

Hello Fairlane
McGregor there, not your spelling. the cemetery doesn't go abck as early as them.
there are 2 McGregors -
lair 11 - Hugh pearson, Mason, Failford d june 1839 aged 59 and his wife janet McGregor d 18 oct 1870 in her 86 year.

Lair 13
George Bryan late farmer in Dykes d 6 dec 1849 aged 80, his wife Mary McGregor d 22 nov 1849 aged 79.
there were McGregor's in Dykes Farm until a few years ago.

The only Muir is Marion Muir in lair 153 as wife of David Mackie d 1 aug 1893 aged 58.

Hope these help a bit

Hello Revmother

Many thanks for your incredibly quick response. I'm just getting to grips with the variety of spelling of the same names - don't think the McGregors belong but I'll do some searching forward down the line to see if this is a branch off. I have baptisms for two of the children of this couple in Mauchline in 1798 and 1800 (unfortunately both girls - one of whom is my mother's line) and hoped to find either James or Margaret's parents in the graveyard!
Many thanks,

Fairlane
