I have just stumbled on this chat site whilst trying to find out about a sanatorium in Folkestone where my great aunt died of diptheria aged 5 in 1894.  I am wondering if this is the same place, it had crossed my mind that it might have been the Dr Barnados home later.

Welcome to Rootschat

The sanatorium was, I think, on the site of what is now St Mary's Primary School and/or Philippa House (retirement housing) at the end of Warren Road behind Wear Bay Road.  I believe that there are some records for the sanatorium at East Kent Archives, Whitfield near Dover.  It wasn't far from Barnado's but not connected.

Thanks for that information I will check it out with the Kent Archives as I am local.  I will check the site where St Mary's school now is to get a rough location.

I can confirm that the Dr Barnardos was in Wear Bay Road on the East Cliff Folkestone. I remember it being there. It is the top picture on the website link above. No longer in existence it closed years ago.
