Hi, Can anyone help me in finding admission and discharge records for a Childrens home in Eastcliffe Folkestone from 1888 onwards. It was called Mary Magdalene home for children I think it might have been run by Nuns so may have been St Mary Magdalene home for children.Hope someone can help. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Nothing coming up on a google search so looks like Josephine's link is the way to go. You could e.mail or hang on til they've done with the stocktaking (12th Feb) and give them a call.

Hi Annv
Welcome to Rootschat
I am aware of St Andrews convalescent home in East Cliff see the first pages on the following page
http://bbhilda.topcities.com/Folkestone/FolkestoneBuildings.html
, the sanatorium for infectious diseases in East Cliff (opened 1877) and also a convent of the faithful virgin in Dover Street (near East Cliff) for delicate children belonging to the Norwood Orphanage which was founded in 1875 but a Mary Magdalene Home for Children eludes me
May we ask the source of your information?

Annv,
If the archives can't help, perhaps you could contact the Catholic archdiocese for the area.

Thank you for all the replies to my posting re Childrens home in Folkestone, I am new to this so please excuse me if I do not reply in person. I have emailed your suggestion Josephine so I am awaiting a reply . The information was taken from the census for 1891 I have been looking for my Grandmother who is Edith Mary Harman I have found a possible in Eastcliffe as she was born in Surrey. That is the reason why I need to check out the records to confirm if this is her. It is said that from a young age she was brought up by Nuns and went into service in Brighton but not sure about that as I found her with her Mothers half sister in 1901. Edith was born in Newington workhouse Boxing Day 1888 no Fathers name and I have been unable to find her Mother Jane either. It is a long story but the Aunty she was with in 1901 was the Person that her children that she had when she married was known to them as Grandmother so they do not seem to have known her real Mother who I have lost track off after she witnessed her half sisters marriage.I will sort it hopefully.

There used to be a Barnardo's hospital in Wear Bay Road overlooking the East Cliff, I am not sure whether it was built for purpose or was perhaps converted from a previous home/hospital.
Here's a link anyway just in case it proves useful

Edit - I should explain that the road called East Cliff runs into Wear Bay Road
