Hello Mary,

Don't know much about this family as yet, on Jane's marriage cert on 27th Oct 1850 St Peter's Leeds to Henry Wales her age is given as 20, although these aren't always reliable. So would put her birth around 1830. Apart from that all I know is her dad was Joseph a cordwainer, she was living in Bell St, Leeds at time of her marriage. Don't know the name of her mother yet though.
So could be her in the 1841 entry below.

Ed. ???

Hi Edmund, Can you tell me a little more about Jane? when she was born, if you can see the rest of my emails, you will see, that there is a Joseph Crookes married to a Mary and Melinda, I don't know for sure if this is the same Joseph, the line I am following is William Crookes born 1841

Hi Ed, This is looking good, William Crookes married a Mary Goulding on the 22nd September 1870, he was living at Royal Oak Yard, his father Joseph (Cordwainer) no mother listed, I am at the moment waiting for his birth cert, hopefully I will get the mothers name. On the 1851 William is listed living at 1 Balls (Bells) yard, no mention of Jane, she was most likely married by this time, have you seen Jane's death certificate, to see the mothers name. do you know if a cordwainer is similar to shoemaker? :) :)

Hello, No don't have Jane's death certificate, anyroad they won't tell yer the mother's name unless she is the informant. Only the fathers names are on wedding cert down ere. Jane was married in 1850.
Aye a cordwainer is a shoemaker.
Royal Oak Yard  is in which town please?

Ed. ;D

Hi Ed, I have found Jane & Henry living at 1 Sun St Leeds in the 1861 census, in 1871 they are at 37 Royal Oak Yard Leeds, that answers your question where is Royal Oak Yard, in 1881 they are living 37 St Peters Stree, which you have allready found out, I can't find anything for 1891, but I have found a ref, to a Henry Wales death  in 1889  in Leeds aged 62 years , it may be worth checking this

Hello, aye both Martha and Frances Crooks were married by 1851 , Frances was living nextdoor to her dad at Balls Yard and it looks like Martha was living at Bell St.
Saw there was a Jane Wales in 1886 and a Henry in 1889, I think Jane was Henry's second wife as there is a reference to another marriage at St Peter's.
Nick. :)

Lilly Crookes was my great grandmother. She was the daughter of William Crookes and Mary Goulding. Any information on the family would be fantastic as I am in Canada and it has been very hard to find information.

Thanks

Karen

Hi Karen, My apologies or not getting back to you sooner, but I was floored with the Flu, and It had been awhile since I did this tree, I had to dig it out, this is the tree of my Brother in law, It was done a few years ago, I haven't been in touch with him for awhile, so I don't want to give to many personal details as yet, but I can give you some information on Lily, how far have you gone on your research? and what part of the family went to Canada, I am allways pleased to hear from someone following one of my tree's
