Hi Mary,
If you look the marriage up on www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk you can order it from the site (if it's there) they have a good coverage of Leeds marriages, if not there, find the reference either on freebmd (order link from website) or www.ancestry.co.uk both free to search, or www.findmypast.com pay-to-view but also with a link to order certs.

will have a look for your census and get back to you

The marriage is on the yorkshirebmd site, but is listed as Crookes not Crooks, anyway you can order it from there.

Can you please say where you saw him listed as a shoemaker, how you know his age, and whether he was actually born in Leeds, I can't seem to find him anywhere  ???

I wonder if Mary is referring to the 1841 census, where there is a William Crook aged 3 weeks who is son of Joseph, a shoe maker, living in Leeds ???

Hi, Thankyou for your help, I phoned the BDM in Leeds and was able to order the marriage certificate, i have William in the 1891 census in Glasgow aged fifty and his occupation was shoe maker, he also has a son John  aged 20 years listed and he is also a shoemaker, he had a daughte Lilly born in Glasgow 1884, his occupation is listed as a coal merchant, his wife Mary died in Glasgow in 1899, and he is listed as a Clog maker, I haven't been able to find his death yet, I don't know if he returned to Leeds, I don't know his fathers name, as I don,t have his marriage or death certificate yet, thanks to both of you for your help

Hello Barbara, Thanks very much, I am sure this is him, once I get his wedding certificate I can see his parents names, I have been trying to find his wife Mary Goulding (Golding) on the census with no luck, I am assuming she came from Leeds as well, as usually you get married in the womans parish, (Well you do in Scotland) I don't know about England, Thanks again, I hope I can return the favour someday, perhaps you might need something looked up in Scotland

Mary
