Llanmadoc/Cheriton/Langenith?
« on: Monday 29 January 07 19:19 GMT (UK) »
Looking into the Taylor and Jenkins families of above area.

Rowland Taylor married Ruth Jenkins 1866, Rowlands father was Thomas Taylor and Ruth's father was George Jenkins(a Miller). I have the censuses for the family from 1871. Any other imformation would be fantastic. I am also wondering where the church records for these areas are kept?

Hi Rachel,
County Hall in Swansea will have  PR's for the Gower churches. They have facsimile books for most of the churches around Swansea and Gower which are easy enough to browse through. They also will hold them on Fiche.
(Neath and Port Talbot will probably hold them too and maybe Cardiff - you'll have to check with them if these do- I've only ever used Swansea archives myself)

If you can't get to Swansea County Hall to view them( or any of the other above archives) you can purchase the PR booklets at GBP 3.00 each (or fiche at GBP 1.07)  for the below churches from the Glamorgan History Society

St Cennydd's ( in Llangennith) PR's - baptisms 1671 to 1925, burials 1671 to 1971 and marriages 1671 to 1950

St Madoc's( in Llanmadoc) PR's -Baptisms 1683 to 1925, burials 1672 to 1989 and marriages 1672 to 1950.

St Cadoc's (Cheriton) Baptisms 1672 to 1925, burials 1672 to 1991 and marriages 1671 to 1950

Hope that helps
Kind Regards :)

Hi, rach123 and littlesue.

I have been researching my mother's side of the family, part of the Lucas clan of Gower; the part of the Lucas family with no money! My Great Grandfather's sister, Eleanor Lucas (sometimes spelt Elinor) married a son of George Jenkin(s) the miller who lived at Wester Mill, Cheriton. The son was also called George. They had five children by 1891:

Martha Ann
Mary S.
Richard A.
George J.
Elizabeth R.

I would be pleased to share any further info if it can be of use.

It's a small world!

Lee.

p.s. I missed out that George Jenkin(s) jr. and Eleanor Lucas were married in 1872. Sorry about that.
