Hi Socs,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

For a start, I can see his marriage:

Robert McKechan - Rosa Dunckley

Hi socs,

have had a look at the 1891 census for Nottingham and found a Robert McKechan, b. 1858 in Scotland, but married to Emma M b. Darlington, Durham  b. ca. 1860.
He is a Travelling Draper living at 20 Chaucer Street (if I can read the writing )

Douglas McKechan (4), b. Nottingham
Anne E. Gatenby (66), Living on own means (mother-in-law)
Fred Bell (11) Nephew
Stanley Bell (1) Nephew
Annie Rhodes (18) Servant

Wasn't sure if I had the right one, looked at the 1901 census and found him again  with his wife Emma M (couldn't see a Rosa) so think I have the right one.

Hope this helps.

Wait a minute - the one I can see in Nottingham in 1901 (and 1891) is married to an Emma  ???

Do you have the 1901 reference where he is married to a Rosa?

Sorry, Vivien  ;)

Hi All,

have found a Rosa McKechan b. 1864,  as a visitor to a family Dunckley  in the 1891 Census which also states her as married, which would fit in with your marriage, Tati   :D   in 1886.

But if she was related to the family she is visiting, wouldn't she be stated as sister or something similar.

This is where is all gets very interesting!!!

Hi Vivien,
Sounds like the right women, definitely married a Rosa and as above  Rosa was a Dunckley, could I ask what county they were in, in 1891. I have discovered them in 1901 Ayrshire, Scotland with daughter Annie and could not trace them after that.
Thanks for the info.
Lyn

Hi Lyn,
In 1891, the family Rosa was visiting lived in Leigh, Lancashire, and consisted of:
Charlotte Dunckley, 47
James Dunckley, 51
Emma, 18
Hannah, 15
Elizabeth, 21
Joseph, 7
Margaret, 10
William, 12

Hope this helps.

Hi Lyn,
looking at what info you have given, and what has been found, I am a little confused.

To start you said Robert was living in Nottingham in 1901, and then you say you found him living in Ayrshire, Scotland in the 1901 Census with Rosa and daughter Annie.
Are we talking about the same Robert?

I don't think so, Vivien  ;) ;D

How old was Annie in 1901 and where was she born?  :)
