I saw that East Grinstead death too.. I would'nt give up hope of her turning up though, I looked at the coverage chart for deaths on Free BMD, 1848 and 1849 are not complete.

Does anyone have any spare credits for 1837 online ? who could have a look, might just be a question of 'hurry up and wait' as my Mum would say  :)

Hi Suey,

I got those details from 1837online - that's why I restricted my search to 1847/8.  I've had a look at 1849, now - a few Caroline Ellises, but none in, or even near, Sussex.  Perhaps some others with spare credits could share the search from 1850 to 1854.

Sorry Dimps did'nt realise, that does complicate things a bit then.

Robyn, is it possible that Caroline died outside the Brighton area?  did she have any other family anywhere that she may have been living with?

I possess research completed many years ago in Australia which records that Alfred Nye (b.31.8.1846) was reared by grandmother, Mrs Palgrave. It also notes that his mother Maria Nye died when Alfred was a baby. The baby's fathers name was Alfred, a music teacher. No copies of registrations held however Aldreds death cert of 1916 records that his parents were Alfred and Maria Nye.
Alfred was my G.Grandfather. My grandfather come to NZ from Steiglitz Victoria Australia.
