Ballyvourney Ancestors
« on: Saturday 27 January 07 19:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi
From Yorkshire.I'm looking for deatails of some gggrandparents born in Ballyvourney who came to Yorkshire around 1836-40.They were Denis CREEDON born about 1800 and his wife Honoria CROWLEY/CRAWLEY born about 1811.
Any help on this pair and their parents would be most appreciated.
Regards
Dennis

I don't really know enough to be able to help you find your ancestors, but I can tell you that Creedon is a very prevalent name in that area.  The village of Inchigeelah, about 16 miles from Ballyvourney, is home to a family of Creedons who own the local hotel and who are also quite an influential family in Cork City itself, being the proprietors of a well known shop called 'Inchigeelah Dairies'.  Conal Creedon, of that family is a playwright growing in stature and other members of the family are heavily involved in culture and the arts.  Having said all that, the family is a very ordinary one- just an intelligent lot!  I don't know if there is any connection with your Creedon, but certainly Inchigeelah and Ballyvourney have a lot of contact with each other.

No idea, sorry, but you could try writing a note to ask if they have any info which might tie in with yours.  Over the weekend, I will try to find contact details for the hotel and also for the business in Cork City.
