Edward Moore in Kildare

I am trying to trace my great grandmother's ancestors she was born in ireland I think it may be County Kildare but not sure as Mayo and Roscommon have been mentioned her name was Elizabeth Moore born 1852/3 her father was Edward Moore but don't know her mother's name.They emigrated to Birmingham England during the potato famine.If anyone can help I would appreciate any info available.

I looked at Griffith's Valuation ... Kildare .. 1851. The Valuations list five men named Edward Moore.
In Mayo 1856/7 Edward Moore is mentioned five times. No Edwards appear in Roscommon but the fact that there is an Edward mentioned or not mentioned does not make the search any easier as he may not have been a head of a household. The dates puzzle me as the mass emigration from Ireland was during the Famine which took place during the years 1845-9. The Valuations started when Ireland's population had fallen drastically and the people conducting it could travel freely around the country.

Is there a girl's Christian name in the family from the time of the Famine to the present date which appears consistently or a name looking like a surname being used as a Christian name .. little clues like this may help to find the name of Elizabeth's mother. Maybe she was named after her mother in which case you are hunting for a surname.

Hi Pam

I too are trying to trace my ancestors the Moores. I am told they are of Irish origin and I think lived in Birmigham. My Grandmother was Sarah Moore born 1888 but I am not sure where. Her father was called Edward Moore I do not know when he was born or where. The only thing I do know is that Edward was a tube drawer. Sarah married my Grandad Frank Shellard in Leeds in 1914. Their youngest child was my Father Allan born 1931. Grandad Frank was from Northfield Selly Oak Birmingham. I think grandma may have been from Birmingham as well but I have no proof yet. Do you think that there may be a connection. I am hitting a brick wall at the moment.

Sorry for delay in replying to you.My Edward Moore was born in 1819 Dublin but his wife Julia( surname unknown) was from Kildare.They had a daughter Jane born 1845 in Kildare.

Hi Christopher sorry for delay in replying been trying to do more research .I think Edward Moore married Julia??? around 1844/5 they had daughter Jane 1845 in Kildare and Elizabeth 1852 some censuses here say she was born in Birmingham others say Ireland.Hope you can help.Thanks Pam

Hi Pam,

What denomination were your Moore ancestors and as a matter of interest at this stage which church did they attend in Birmingham? The records of that church may show other Irish families from the same county and townland in Ireland as your Moore ancestors.

Hi Christopher
My Moore's were catholic.Edward married Julia Chander I think she had a brother Dennis,one of Edward and Julia's children was also called Dennis.I think they came to England around 1849.Edward was born 1819/20 and Julia 1820/21.I am not sure what church they attended in Birmingham.
