Hi Lorraine, Lewis was my gt  gt grandfather and I have history of them that goes back to 1740.  Are you that far back?  I dont know if you know anything about Arthur in paticular as he took off to US and served as a Union Soldier in the Civil War!  Also one of our ancestors when to Australia for the Gold Rush.  I am also in touch with Arthurs descendants in US and have had contact with those in Oz.  I am also working on the history with a recently found relative of the Lewis line, whom I hope to meet up with soon as she only lives about 45 minutes away from me.  I visit Diseworth if you know of this place where Joseph and Ann Gill Thompson lived for quite some time.  I have left my email in previous message and am happy for you to contact me this way if it easier.   Helen

Hi,

I've been looking at this thread for a few weeks now and have only just pulled out my notes on the Wheeldons. If I have this right, Arthur and Lewis were 2 of 14 children of Joseph Wheeldon and Ann Gill Thompson. Joseph was the son of Samuel Wheeldon and Catherine Cockayne who married 14th August 1800 in Derby.

My interest in the family is that Samuel had a daughter Catherine, born c1829 from the censuses, although I haven't found her baptism yet, and she is my greatx2 grandmother. Not sure whether she is the child of Samuel and Catherine or, more likely, Samuel and Hannah (Wathall?) - I can't find Catherine Wheeldon senior's death so I can't be completely sure.

Best regards,

Hi,  Lewis was also my gt gt grandfather. He married Ann Bexon in Sawley church. His son, Lewis Thompson Wheeldon married Edith Annie Towle and these are my great grandparents.  Very interesting to read all the comments.

Best regards

Hi,

I am trying to trace relatives of Lewis Thompson  Wheeldon  and Edith Annie (nee Towle)  Edith Annie is my 1st cousin twice removed and we are both related to my gt grandfather Arthur Towle born abt 1844 in Beeston who was a Lacemaker.

Hi Julia

Lewis Thompson Wheeldon and Edith Annie Towle were my great grandparents.  I am descended from their daughter Catherine.  They had 2 children, Catherine and Ernest.

I have been researching my family history for several years now and have a lot of information on Lewis and Edith.  I knew Edith ( I called her Ma) but Lewis died before I was born but I have photos of them.

I would be pleased to share information with you.

Regards
Anne

Hi Anne,

Thank you for your quick response.

I have been  researching the Towle family for some time but  finding it difficult to go back further than 1787 when Thomas Towle born in Scarrington. I have no idea who his parents were or his siblings.  I think that you and I are descended from Thomas and wife Mary (nee Girton).

I was born in  Wollaton, Nottingham then moved to nearby Stapleford in 1949. I was living there in 1963 the year that Robert Foster Towle died [he was the brother of Edmund (Ediths father)] and I never knew I had relations so close by as Long Eaton where I even worked for a time..

Percy Towle, brother to Edith Annie, emigrated to USA in 1913 where he had 3 Lace Factories. I managed to trace Percy's son Robert Foster Towle b 1945, this son  by Percy's 2nd wife who was quite a few years his junior.  Robert seemed interested in genealogy at first, but it soon fizzled out.

I live in Nottingham, and if you are not too far away I would love to meet up with you. I have a lot of family photographs going way back but unfortunately no names written on the back but some I can decipher. I am quite sure I have photos of my gt grandfather Arthur and his family. Arthur being Edith's uncle.

I'd be quite happy to share what I have with you.

Regards
Julia
